First impressions will always be important. We all know that. But in this age of social media where so many of our interactions take place, virtual personal branding has become just as important as perfecting the “firm but friendly” handshake. A professional portrait is a great opportunity to portray a visual brand image to potential customers/clients/employers who aren’t just researching WHAT you do. … they are just as interested in WHO you are.
Whether you are working for a small business in the arts and design field or working for a national, multi million dollar company – your visual brand can and does show through whatever image you choose to use as your headshot. This one, single photo can let people know that you are creative, friendly, approachable, serious, firm or “all business”. Or, on the other hand, it can let people know that you may not care enough about putting your best foot forward so you took a selfie on your iphone and used it as your headshot. (lets hope you don’t do that!)
It all comes down to how you choose to portray yourself to your potential clients/customers. Today’s corporate portraits are more artistic, creative and relaxed. The key to getting images you love is working with a photographer who you trust and who makes you feel totally at ease in front of the camera. The more comfortable you are, the better your photos will be….it’s just that simple.
At the end of the day, whether you’re working for yourself, representing a larger company, or even searching for a new job, you will more than likely have profile photos throughout the internet and on social media. Providing one, cohesive visual brand for yourself and your company will go a very long way in your marketing efforts. One photograph, if done well, can give the world a glimpse of who you are.
